EO Basics: Minor Burn Care

BACK TO THE BASICS: Minor burn care with essential oils

Sometimes, life burns - literally. Whether it be a sunburn, getting a hot pan out of the oven, accidentally touching a hot stove, or a haywire curling iron, sometimes we end up with minor burns that can really hurt!

Luckily, essential oils may help. You might try the following for minor burns (be sure to see a doctor if your burn is serious - anything more than a first-degree burn!):

Option 1: Cold water/cold compress with essential oils
Running cold water over a recent burn for at least 10 minutes is a well-established treatment for minor burns. Why not add a drop or two of Lavender essential oil to the mix? After the burn is cooled, a drop of Lavender essential oil can also be added to cold water and made into a compress to hold against the burn.

Option 2: Make a cooling spray
The spray can be as simple or as complex as you prefer, but you might consider including aloe vera gel, witch hazel, Lavender essential oil, and a small amount of Peppermint essential oil (for a cooling effect - but be careful with sensitive skin!).

We're a fan of our after-sun spray for minor burns:
-4oz glass bottle
-25 drops Spark Naturals Lavender essential oil
-15 drops of Spark Naturals Peppermint essential oil
-10 drops of Spark Naturals Frankincense essential oil
-10 drops of Spark Naturals Roman Chamomile essential oil
-5 drops of Spark Naturals Melaleuca essential oil
-1/4 cup aloe vera
-4 oz water, Spark Naturals Rose Water, or Spark Naturals Witch Hazel

Combine ingredients in order, filling to the top with water/rose water/witch hazel. To use, apply to the affected area by spraying. Keep in the fridge for extra cooling effect.
